ROSE COMPANY CO-OWNER, 73 George C. Turner, 73, co-owner of Thompson Roses Inc. of Kennett Square, died of emphysema Sunday at his home in Kennett Square.
Mr. Turner helped operate the wholesale florist business for more than 20 years until the company ceased business five years ago. The family had served customers on the East Coast for more than 200 years.
Born in Chile, where his father was a mining engineer, Mr. Turner graduated from Harvard University in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in English. He attended primary and secondary schools in Massachusetts. He enjoyed reading, etymology, fishing and tennis.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 50 years, Betsy Thompson Turner; three sons, Claibourne, William and Robert; a daughter, Phoebe, and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held yesterday at the Kennett Friends Meeting House in Kennett Square. Burial will be private.
