Notes for Ronald G. BURCHAM
Ronald Burcham died peacefully at home in Newark, DE on December 2, 2014, ensconced in his favorite easy chair. Born & raised in Rockland, DE, he was a 1951 graduate of A.I. DuPont High School where he excelled in sports earning 11 varsity letters in baseball, basketball, track & field, and football for which he was named to the 1950 All-State Team as a Running Back.
After high school, Ronnie spent two years in the Army serving in the medical corps and in the Special Services Entertainment Division. Following the army, he began working for the Diamond State Tel. Co., where he spent 30 years as a cable splicer & engineering technician. After retirement, he worked as a starter at Rock Manor Golf Club where he pursued his passion for golf. Ronnie was also an accomplished musician who played professionally in bands throughout the 50's, 60's, 70's & 80's and continued playing guitar for family & friends until the end. He was also an avid bowler, a member of the Elks Club, the Del. Vets Club, and the Tel. Workers Union.
Ronnie was a warm and generous man who will be dearly missed. He was predeceased by his wife, Rosa N. Burcham, in 1991 and is survived by his four children, Debbie Pfautz (Doug), Glenn Burcham (Carol), Gary Burcham (Gina), and Susan Burcham, as well as eight grandchildren; Alexis, Ashley & Alyssa Gianoulis, Christopher, Cori & Conner Burcham, Zachary Burcham, and Aidan Radosevich. He will also be greatly missed by his long-time companion, Thelma Kline, and his honorary daughter, Dana Anderson Thomas.
A visitation for family & friends will be held on Monday, December 8, 2014 from 11:00 am to noon followed by a brief service at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, where all are invited to share "Ronnie stories". Burial will follow at the Chester Bethel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to your favorite charity in memory of Ron.
