Notes for Geoffrey Carter ROEHRS

ROEHRS GEOFFREY CARTER
Age 71, of Unionville, Chester County, PA, died peacefully at his home on July 14, 2018, after a brief battle with cancer.
Geoff was born on October 26, 1946, in Coatesville PA to Walter E. Roehrs Jr. and Brent (Wolcott) Roehrs. He and his companion and wife of 28 years, Jill Bowen Roehrs resided at their lovely farm in the heart of Unionville fox hunting country.
After graduating from Downingtown High School in 1966, Geoff attended the Univer-sity of Oklahoma. He then travel-ed abroad, studying at Alliance Francaise and the Sorbonne. He returned to Pennsylvania and completed his academic career, graduating from West Chester University.
In his early years, Geoff worked as a carpenter and a farmer and taught at Devereaux. He later joined the family insurance business and launched his own agency in 2000, where he worked until his death.
Geoff has often been described as a renaissance man. There was little he couldn't fix, few questions he couldn't answer. An avid reader, Geoff's numerous talents were largely self taught.
Geoff was a true gentleman and scholar. He was a man of great generosity, humor, and wit. He began each day tending to his Nakota horses and reveling in the beauty of the surrounding farmland. He missed little in nature.
Upholding family tradition, some of Geoff's fondest moments were spent casting a fly over a pool of water mid-stream, and shooting skeet with friends at his local gun club. One of his most memorable trips was fly fishing for Atlantic Salmon on the Miramichi River in New Brunswick, Canada. Geoff passionately supported the Nakota Horse Conservancy, where he served as President of the Board of Directors.
Geoff was a member of the Pohoqualine Fish Association, the West Chester Gun Club, and the Cacoosing Gun Club. He was a board member of the Graystone Society, which supports the National Iron and Steel Heritage Museum, and the Society of American Registered Architects, which offers a Geoffrey C. Roehrs Scholarship Fund.
He instituted an annual charity shoot for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation in memory of Liam Nevin, a fallen soldier and good friend.
Geoff generously donated his time each year at the Ludwig's Corner Labor Day Horse Show. Despite brutal heat and endless hours, Geoff could be found at the entrance gate, complete with his cowboy hat, cheerfully greeting all who entered with a clever remark.
Geoff is survived by his wife, Jill Bowen Roehrs; brother, Giles B. Roehrs; sister, Rebecca (Roehrs) Smith; foster brother, Harold Ross; stepdaughter, Heather (Irby) Wallinovich; stepson, Graham Irby and wife Ashley Irby; grandchildren Addie and Hunter Wallinovich; and Hawley Chester, his dear friend and business partner.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at a later date to be determined by the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, or Nakota Conservancy, Linton ND (Please specify donations for hay and pasture funds).
