Notes for Irma NACHOD
Irma Nachod Satterthwaite passed away peacefully Sunday, April 20, 2014, at her residence in Pennswood Village, Newtown. She was 94.
Born Nov. 11, 1919, in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, to the late J. Ernest and Ruth (Fueller) Nachod, she was the fourth of seven children. She graduated from Cheltenham High School in 1937, and in 1941 married Edwin H. Satterthwaite, of Doylestown, Pa.
She was an outgoing, generous, warm, and kind-hearted person. Her volunteer activities included more than fifty years of service to the Red Cross; many years with Doylestown's Village Improvement Association (VIA) in support of the Doylestown Hospital; Bucks County Association for the Blind; active member of the Doylestown Presbyterian Church; and more.
After moving to Pennswood Village in Newtown, she especially enjoyed welcoming prospective residents and introducing them to the facility, as well as volunteering in many other capacities at Pennswood.
Entertaining was always a pleasure for her. She traveled often, especially appreciating the shore, whale watching, and Elderhostel classes. She loved her extensive collection of glass, many photo albums and writings, and enjoyed several forms of needlework, often creating gifts for her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Hon. Edwin H. Satterthwaite; her son, William R. Satterthwaite of Seattle, Wash.; and by her six siblings.
She is survived by her son, Edwin H. Satterthwaite Jr. of Palo Alto, Calif.; grandsons, Robert E. of Palos Verdes Estates, and William H. of Scotts Valley, Calif.; granddaughters, Anna F. of Seattle, Wash., and Karen L. of New York City; and two great-grandchildren, Ella C. and Conner W. of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. She is remembered with love and appreciation by her daughters-in-law, Ruth (Carwithen) Satterthwaite and Judith S. Dubester, and by her many friends.
The family wishes to thank Pennswood Village, Compassionate Care Hospice Services, and especially Howard Thurman, for their kind care of Irma.
A memorial is being planned for July 12th. Details will be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Pennswood Village Fellowship Fund, the American Red Cross, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, or to the charity of your choice.
