Notes for Thomas Mendenhall YERKES
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Thomas M. Yerkes, 88, a resident of Menno Haven, Walden Unit, and formerly of 4073 Frecon Road, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, in the nursing home.
Born Sept. 14, 1915, in West Chester, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry W. and Ruth L. McNeil Yerkes.
He was a graduate of Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Del.
He was corporate secretary and office manager for Conard-Pyle Co. in West Grove, Pa., for 30 years, retiring in 1974.
He was a member of Chambersburg Friends Meeting; Franklin County Rock and Mineral Club; Conococheague Audubon Society; and served at the Institute for Retired Persons as treasurer for many years. He was a member and past president of Pennsylvania Nurserymen's Association.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jane A. Kerr Yerkes; one daughter, Anne L. Baton of Chambersburg; two brothers, Richard Yerkes of Waterford, Vt., and F. William Yerkes of Marshallton, Pa.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Thomas K. Yerkes; and one brother, Harry W. Yerkes Jr.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Dec. 20, at 3 p.m. at Chambersburg Friends Meeting, Chambersburg.
There will be no public viewing.
The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Chambersburg Friends Meeting, 6301 Lindia Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro, Pa.
