Leroy W. England, 83, of Maple Farm Nursing Center, Akron, formerly of Hearthstone Lane, Mount Joy, died Friday morning at the nursing center.
England was a farmer in the Oxford area until 1958. He then drove a delivery truck for Suburban Propane, West Grove, until 1978. He retired as a clerk from Devitts Hardware, Coatesville, in 1988.
A handyman, he enjoyed gardening and sports, especially the Philadelphia Phillies.
He was well known for his sense of humor, stories of his childhood and anecdotes.
England had also lived in Quarryville, Kennett Square, Oxford and Russellville.
Born in Zion, Md., he was the son of the late R. Ross and Erma V. Smith England.
His wife, Treva E. King England, died in 2002.
Surviving are a daughter, Janet K. Baccino of Chadds Ford; two sons, James L. of Townsend, Del., and Robert C. of Coatesville; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Myra Ferguson of Chestertown, Md., Hilda Jones and Laura England, both of Oxford, and twins Vera England of Oxford and Verna Kirk of Dover, Del.; and two brothers, John and Floyd, both of Oxford.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn L. Pia; a granddaughter; two sisters, Ethel Wiggins and Doris Reisler; and three brothers, Roger R., Willard and Donald.
