Grace Crossan DeStafney October 5, 1923 - January 6, 2012 Biography Mrs. Grace Crossan DeStafney, age 88, of Newark, DE, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012. A native Delawarean, Mrs. DeStafney was born October 5, 1923, on the family farm in Hockessin, daughter of the late Herbert E. Crossan and Eva Sill Crossan. As a young woman during World War II, she was employed at the Newark Department Store before leaving to marry her beloved husband, the late Joseph A. DeStafney, and raise her family. Mrs. DeStafney was a devout Catholic throughout her life and a longtime, active member of Holy Family parish. She was a former parishioner of St. Johns-Holy Angels.Mrs. DeStafney will be long remembered as a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Graden; granddaughter, Barbara Fretz (Mark); grandson, Patrick Graden (Julie); great grandchildren, Ian and Zachary Fretz and Elizabeth, Kyle, and Victoria Graden; sister-in-law, Rose Marchese; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. DeStafney was preceded in death by her siblings, Homer, Elmer, and Calver Crossan, and Dorothy Ross. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 2 pm on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark, where visitation will begin at 1 pm. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Rt. 213, Cherry Hill, MD.
