BLAIN - F. William "Bill" Yerkes, 85, of Blain and formerly of Chester County's Marshallton area, died Thursday, October 28, 2004 at home.
He was born June 12, 1919 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Harry W. and Ruth L. McNeil Yerkes. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry W. Yerkes and Thomas M. Yerkes.
He was a self employed dairy farmer for many years. While farming, he was also employed by Spicer's, Schramms, Shaw's Hatchery and Pocopson Mill. After retirement from the farm, he worked for Jacob's Associates, all in Chester County.
Bill was a World War II Navy Veteran; was a 1937 graduate of Westtown School in Westtown, PA; he then attended Penn State and was a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Heath Yerkes; three daughters, Anne Y. Wittkamp of Philadelphia, Mary Y. Adams of Blain, Tacie Y. Trull of Bridgeton, NJ; four sons, John B. Yerkes of West Grove, William M. Yerkes of Marshallton, Robert H. Yerkes of West Chester and H. Sharpless Yerkes of Newtown Square; a brother, Richard Yerkes of North Waterford, VT; 22 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
The date for a Quaker memorial service will be announced later.
