Notes for Andrew CREW
The Quaker records show Andrew I as a member of the Weynoak Meeting. While almost surely a member from childhood, the first records I found on him were in early 1720 when he announced his intention of marrying Hannah Ellyson, daughter of G. Robert Ellyson of New Kent Co. They married about April 12, 1720 at the meeting house.
In the summer of 1727, he was fined and imprisoned for refusing to bear arms. He was fined again in 1735, 1739, 1741 and 1745. In the fall of 1745 both Andrew senior and junior contributed toward the work on the meeting house. A major dispute among the heirs of G.R. Ellyson over the division of his property in 1749/50 involved Andrew and several of his siblings and he was forced to post a bond. When Hannah was recorded as having died on 11/21/1774 she was listed as a widow. CCC Deed & Will book2; Andrew was mentioned fairly often, he was a witness, on several occasions from 1726 to 1735; the Executor of the will of Robert Crew in 1737; He purchased land from Samuel Poindexter in May 1739. Seems to be the Andrew Jr. listed in March 1745 when a deed from Gatley Crew was recorded; executor to his brother John's will in 1761; made Deed of gift to his son James in 1761; was administrator to Gatley Crew's estate in 1762; Stanley 5, p207. She was married the 12d 2m 1720 (April 12, 1720) to Andrew Crew, (son of John of CCC) in Henrico Co. They lived in CCC . (Author quotes "Tidewater Virginia Families" by Davis as her source). Cruze Ancestors7. Married Andrew Crew on Feb. 12, 1720 in Charles City Co.
