Notes for Claude L. KELSEY

Claude L. Kelsey, as a young man on the old homestead at Anoka, Minnesota, developed a fine clay formation after hearing his father talk of its possibilities for building material, and manufactured bricks that were used extensively in larger construction and in modern homes. To this day it is known as Kelsey clay. He went to Spokane, Washington, and was successful in his manufacturing brick. In 1905 he came to Klamath Falls, erected the Kelsey building and bought and sold property independently until 1921, he moved to Oakland, California. About 1926 he moved to Ashland, Oregon for nearly 3 years, then returned to Oakland, and returned to Klamath Falls in 1930. He died at his home at 1136 Pine Street.
