Notes for Alan Garrigues CROASDALE
ALAN G. CROASDALE Alan G. Croasdale, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Arista Care, Plymouth Twp., PA. Born in Bryn Mawr, PA, he was the son of the late Lawrence K. and Gertrude Davis (Garrigues) Croasdale. Alan was a graduate of Schwenksville High School and proud alumni of Pennsylvania State University, where he received a B.A. in Art. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, the Nittany Lion Association, and was a 35-year season ticket holder for his beloved Penn State football team. He was a member of the Schuylkill Friends Quaker Meeting, where he served as facilities manager. For 25 years, Alan was involved with Alcoholics Anonymous and Adult Children of Alcoholics. Alan was instrumental in establishing the AA meeting at the Friends meetinghouse that has been gathering each week for the past 14 years. He served as a District Representative and performed service work for AA. For most of his life, Alan was a self-employed graphic designer and the owner of A Graphic Concern. He was an avid sky diver and boasted over 2000 jumps. Alan was part of the Georgia state record for a 66-man formation jump. Alan enjoyed participating in many forms of activism, most recently with Occupy Pottstown. He was an environmental activist and humanitarian. He donated his time and money to many environmental causes and interests. Following his diagnosis with ALS, Alan became an advocate for ALS research and support. He was an active participant with the ALS Hope Foundation. Survivors include one son, Jared M. Croasdale and his wife, Meghan Nolan, of W. Conshohocken, PA; two daughters, Molly A., wife of Eric Bowe, of Schwenksville, PA, and Kelsey A. Croasdale of Kutztown, PA; one sister, Laura Martin of Florida; two grandsons, Eric Bowe, Jr. and Jack Bowe; two nieces, Emily Haupt and Rachel Martin, and the mother of Alan's three children, Karen Lachenmayer. A life celebration will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Houck & Gofus Funeral Home, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte Street, Pottstown, PA. Friends and family are encouraged to share a memory or thought of Alan. Preceding the celebration, family and friends will be greeted from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be donated by the family to the ALS Hope Foundation. Alan's children will be organizing a memorial fundraiser for the ALS Hope Foundation at a later date.
