Notes for Harold Edward BARNES
Harold Edward Barnes of Coatesville Harold Edward Barnes, 85, of Coatesville died Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at his home. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Anna Martin Barnes, and the husband of Ellen Emma Kurtz Barnes with whom he would have shared 50 years of marriage in August 2014. Harold was a 1946 graduate of Coatesville High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Temple University in 1950. For over 40 years, Harold was employed by Lukens Steel Company; his last position was Supervisor of Benefits. He was proud to have been the third generation in his family to retire from Lukens. Harold was a life member of the Olivet United Methodist Church where he served in numerous capacities over the years. He was involved in many community organizations including Coatesville Senior Center, Meals on Wheels and Salvation Army. Harold's life centered around his family and his home. He was proud of his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed working in his yard, watching sports, and listening to music, especially hearing his son Jim play the organ. In addition to his wife Ellen, Harold was survived by his son James Prentice Barnes and his wife Vickie of Newark, DE; Rachel Elizabeth Barnes Graves and her husband Victor of Pittsburgh; and Margery Ellen Barnes Kuhn and her husband Jeremy of Brownstown; six grandchildren: Spencer Thomas, Sean Victor, and Ryan Harrison Graves and Sarah Lauren, Emily Kathryn and Justin David Kuhn. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Glenn Martin Barnes, his brother William Martin Barnes, and his sister Jane Barnes Patterson. Harold's funeral service will be held Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11:00am at Olivet United Methodist Church 310 East Chestnut Street, Coatesville where family and friends may call beginning at 10am. Interment will be private in Doe Run Presbyterian Cemetery, Coatesville. Memorials in Harold's honor may be made to Salvation Army 669 East Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, PA 19320.
