Notes for Harlan SCOTT

Harlan Scott, 95, of Wilmington, DE, died at Stonegates, on Saturday, January 25, 2014.

Mr. Scott was born in 1918, the son of the late Harlan George Scott and Deborah Halsey Scott of Wilmington. He attended Tower Hill School, Lawrenceville School and Yale University.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater. Prior to his retirement he was a stockbroker with Laird, Bissell and Meads in Wilmington. Mr. Scott was known as an expert on pre-Columbian cultures, traveling extensively throughout the Americas.

On February 22, 1948, he married Ann Layton Scott, daughter of Caleb Sipple Layton and Helene Mustard Layton of Wilmington. She was the widow of Major Thomas Skelly of Wilmington who was killed in action in March of 1945 leaving two young children. Mr. Scott also had two sisters who predeceased him, Deborah T. Wise, of Jacksonville, FL and Barbara S. Elliott of Wilmington, DE.

Mr. Scott is survived by Ann Townsend Skelly of Seattle, WA, Thomas McFarland Skelly of West Palm Beach, FL, Harlan Rodney Scott of Wilmington, DE, Caleb Layton Scott of Tinmouth, VT, Halsey King Blake Scott of Charlottesville, VA, 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
