Notes for Carolyn Deborah KAUFMAN

Carolyn Deborah Kaufman Price, of Wilmington Delaware, age 86, died on November 29, 2013. She was born in Reading, Pennsylvania of Pennsylvania German parents, Samuel and Alma (Kutz) Kaufman. Upon relocating to Philadelphia area, Carolyn graduated from Lower Merion High School and continued her education obtaining a B.S. in Home Economics from Pennsylvania State University in 1948. While at Penn State, Carolyn met and married her husband, William A. Price, Jr. (Bill). After undergraduate studies were completed, the couple moved to New Brunswick, New Jersey to accommodate her husband's PhD education. Carolyn and Bill subsequently settled in the Brandywine Hundred area of North Wilmington.

Carolyn raised a family whilst working part time as a substitute teacher and then a para-professional at Alexis I. DuPont High School for which she assisted in the science laboratories. She left the district in 1975 to pursue other interests.

Carolyn was keenly interested in dogs. She co-owed an obedience training school, in addition to providing dog outreach education programs on behalf of the New Castle County SPCA. In addition, Carolyn bred and showed Brittany dogs resulting in at least 5 bench show champions and numerous obedience and tracking titles for her dogs. She was past president of the Wilmington Kennel Club and Delaware SPCA (Stanton)

An avid member of Wilmington Country Club, she enjoyed dances, club events, and golf. Yet her passion in later life was for duplicate bridge; which she played regularly and became a Bronze Life Master.

She leaves behind her husband of 67 years, William Alrich Price, Jr., daughter Deborah Price ,Wilmington, DE, and son William A. Price III (wife Gay Lynn,) Havre de Grace, MD ; 6 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson.
