Notes for Charles O. CALVIN

Charles O. Calvin, son of Andrew and Emily Calvin, was born December 2, 1864, in Bryan, Ohio, and passed to his eternal reward September 26, 1936, aged 71 years, 9 months and 24 days. He joined the Christian church when a boy in his teens and has always been an earnest follower. He grew to manhood in Bryan, Ohio. He taught school in Ohio and also in Dundee Co., Nebraska. On March 9, 1892, he was united in marriage to Jennie Baker. They were married in a sod house and homesteaded seven years in Dundee Co., living in a two-room sod house. A sod Christian church was also built on their homestead. Their home was blessed with five children: three boys and two girls, all surviving. They are Alphord J. of Hughson, California, Velma Hansen of Denver, Colorado, Harland W. of Hebron, Nebr., Golda Nelson of Superior, Nebr., and E. Elgie of Long Beach, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Calvin moved to Nuckolls Co. in 1897 and settled on a farm near Cadams. They resided on the same farm for 34 years and moved to their present home in Nelson in March, 1931.
He was always active in church and Sunday school work, acting as teacher, superintendent, elder or wherever his services were needed.
His father, mother and two brothers preceded him in death. Besides his devoted wife and five children he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Joe Arnold, Bryan, Ohio, and Mrs. W.E. Scott, Pittsford, Mich., and one brother, Harry of Cleveland, Ohio; also five grand children, Calvin and Jack Hanson, Denver, Colo., Carol and Nancy Calvin, Long Beach, Calif., Betty Jo Calvin, Hebron, Nebr., and a host of friends.
The funeral services were held in the Christian church (sic) Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. P.H. Peterson. All the children were present at these services, except Elgie.
