Notes for Elisha Kirk III BROWN
E. Kirk Brown III
passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 in John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. He was 74. He was born June 16, 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland, son of the late E. Kirk Brown, Jr. and Margaret Reed Brown.
Kirk was the proprietor of Wyoming Tavern for over 50 years, taking over business responsibilities after his late father's death. Always a people person, he greatly enjoyed the daily interaction with his customers, employees, and the entire town of Wyoming from the Police Station, Town Hall, the Bank of Wyoming, and other town businesses--always greeting people with a smile and a cheerful comment. He spent many happy evenings playing on shuffleboard and pool teams over the years.
He also had a lifelong passion for horses, racing several standardbreds in the 1970s, and later switching his primary interest to cutting horses. He was President of the East Coast Cutting Horse Association in the late 70s and spent three years traveling from Texas to the north and southeast riding in various competitions. In the early 1980s he developed an interest in thoroughbreds and purchased a small farm outside Wyoming where he developed a successful pinhooking business, often traveling to Kentucky and Florida to choose weanlings to develop for sales as yearlings. Throughout the late 80s and 90s he acted as sales agent when the yearlings were sold in Maryland. Later the farm expanded into small scale breeding, where his expertise led to the breeding of several stake winning horses.
His interests were varied, but always active--he greatly enjoyed years of boating and occasional fishing with family and friends, and spent many, many hours on the local golf course. He also loved to golf when he traveled; relishing anyone he was paired with, because they immediately became another friend to talk with. He liked to travel just about anywhere, and his joy and enthusiasm for any new experience and any small routine experience life offered will always be treasured by his family and friends.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Debra Brown. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Brown, daughter Elesha Kelly Lands, Son-in-law Bradley Lands, son Dale Brown, daughter-in-law Barbara Brown and granddaughter Alexis Brown.
A gathering in remembrance will be 6:30-9:00 pm Wednesday, September 11 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Service will be 11:00 am Thursday, September 12 at the funeral home. Burial will be private in Rising Sun, Maryland.
