Notes for Thomas Frederick LAIRD

Thomas Frederick Laird a long-time resident of Doylestown and New Britain, died on August 22, 2013. He was 77 years old. He died at his home, under the care of hospice, with his children and brother by his side. Tom Laird was born in Lower Merion Township, PA and was the son of the late John and Winifred Burgess Laird. He attended Lower Merion High School and worked in the family bakery business. In 1960 he married Elizabeth (Betsie) Boyd. They made their home in Bala Cynwyd before moving to Doylestown and establishing The Village Pantry Bakery at Peddler's Village in Lahaska. He later established The Candy Pantry, in New Hope, and The Pizza Depot restaurant in Doylestown. Most recently he sold specialty breads baked at Shady Maple Farm Market in Lancaster County. Tom was a member of Doylestown Presbyterian Church for forty-five years. He was very active in the church community and was an Elder. He is survived by his son: Scott Laird, husband of Kate, of Vernonia, Oregon; daughter: Susan Laird Veilleux, wife of Peter, of Wakefield, Massachuttes; brother: Richard Laird, husband of Penny, of Twain Heart, California and sister-in-law Joan Boyd of Telford, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Sophie and Trevor Veilleux and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Elizabeth, his parents, and brothers John, James, Robert and Raymond Laird. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Doylestown Presbyterian Church, 127 E. Court Street, Doylestown.
