Notes for Henrietta Armitt HARRISON
Henrietta (Tenny) Marshall age 89, the widow of Julian McIlvaine Marshall, died peacefully at The Quadrangle in Haverford, PA on August 10, 2013. Mrs. Marshall was born in Philadelphia, PA, the oldest daughter of Joseph Harrison, Jr and Lucretia Heckscher Harrison. Tenny graduated from the Friends School, Haverford and The Shipley School, Bryn Mawr, PA. She has been involved with women's rights organizations for many decades; Tenny was on the board of Planned Parenthood of Southeastern PA for over 30 years, and chairman in the '70's. She was on the board of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, chairing it 1975-1978. She was also the volunteer President of PPFA for a year, as well as the Executive Director of Women's Way in Philadelphia. Tenny served on the boards of the Alan Guttmacher Institute, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, The Population Institute, The Marriage Council of Philadelphia, The Population Crisis Committee, Advocates of Youth and the board of The Shipley School. Tenny served on the boards of The Strawberry Mansion; Committee of 1926, The Stenton Mansion and was President of The Acorn Club in Philadelphia and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Most recently, Tenny served on the board of Sulgrave Manor, George Washington's ancestral home in Northamptonshire, England. Tenny was the recipient of The Human Rights Award from the city of Philadelphia in 1976. Tenny is survived by her four children; John Marshall of Watertown, Connecticut; Stevens Marshall of Ft. Pierce, Florida; Elizabeth Marshall of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania; and Julia Milone of Naples, Florida, and Nantucket, Massachusetts. She is also survived by a sister, Lea Bolling of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and brothers, Stevens Harrison of Lakeville, Connecticut and Joseph Harrison, III of Newport, Rhode Island; as well as twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A celebration of Tenny's life will be held from 11:00 am until 2:00pm on Sunday September 8th, 2013 at The Merion Cricket Club in Haverford, Pennsylvania.
