Notes for John L. Jr. BARR

John L. Barr Jr. of Coatesville John L. Barr, Jr., 68, of Coatesville, passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He was the beloved husband of Katherine M. Horn Barr, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia, John was the son of the late John L., Sr. and Dorothy J. Lukens Barr. John was a graduate of Harriton High School in Lower Merion Township and then received his associates degree from Peirce Junior College in 1965. He proudly served in U.S. Army, achieving the rank of Specialist 5. Before his retirement, "Omar" was employed as a casualty claims analyst for Prudential Insurance Company for over 30 years. As the "Mayor" of Hillview, John enjoyed living in the community and participating in their activities; especially bingo, where he was known affectionately as "Johnny Bingo". He was a member of both Central Presbyterian Church and Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Downingtown. John had a heart of gold and a great sense of humor. He loved the Three Stooges - "Nyuk Nyuk"- and won "Best Legs" contests at both their honeymoon and Prudential. He loved sports, especially, the Reading Phillies, bowling, and baseball. John was a lover of life and adored being "Pop Pop" to his grandchildren. He was a faithful husband, devoted father and loving brother; an honest man and a friend to all. In addition to his wife, Mr. Barr is survived by his children, Kevin Barr and Jennifer Barr Droter and her husband, Jim Droter; three granddaughters, Leah, Elizabeth and Anna; and sisters, Janet Nocini and Carol Corner. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 20th, at Calvary Fellowship Church, 95 W. Devon Dr., Downingtown, where family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. Interment will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Down Syndrome Association of Chester County, P.O. Box 258, Exton, PA 19341.
