Notes for Gwen JENKINS

CHAPMAN GWEN JENKINS, on July 12, 2013, at the age of 94. She was sinking putts two weeks earlier and died peacefully after a fall. An alumna of Germantown Friends School and Swarthmore College, she was President of the Pennsylvania Society for the Abolition of Slavery, Chair of the Board of Inglis House, a trustee of Springside School, and an active volunteer in support of the Chestnut Hill Hospital. A resident of Foulkeways at Gwynedd and Pocono Lake Preserve PA, and formerly of Chestnut Hill PA, she is survived by 3 children, William E. Chapman, II of Annapolis MD and Longboat Key FL, Diana Chapman Walsh of Brookline MA and Marie Chapman Carroll of St. Louis MO. Her fourth child, Sally Chapman, formerly of New York City, died June 2, 2012. Her husband, Robert F. Chapman died in 1999. Other survivors include Bonnie Wallace Chapman, Christopher T. Walsh; 5 grandchildren, Allison Walsh Kurian, Robert Wallace Chapman, Dorothy Chapman Flint, Gregory Patrick Carroll, Meaghan Chapman Carroll and 3 great-grand-children, William Patrick Flint, Julia Davis Flint, and Sean Rohan Kurian. She took enormous pride in her family, who will miss her terribly while drawing inspiration from the life she lived on her own terms resolutely and with courage. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Friends Service Committee.
