The son of Walker Burford Freeman and Bettie Allen Freeman. Pulitzer prize winning Douglas Southall Freeman was his brother. Dr. Allen Weir Freeman was wed to Julia Brown Freeman. Allen Weir Freeman was Dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene & Public Health. He wrote "Five million patients; the professional life of a health officer" published in 1946. He was member of the advisory committee on public health.
