Notes for Thelma M. PUSEY

Thelma Pusey Hay, 95, an Elkins Park, PA resident since 1941, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2013. Thelma was born in Berwyn on September 22, 1917 to the late Emma MacAfee Pusey and Samuel Woodward Pusey. She was the wife of the late William Harvey Hay, who had co-owned J. Howard Hay Painting and Decorating, which flourished in Jenkintown from the late 1800s until the 1970s. Three younger brothers, Samuel, Alfred and John Pusey, predeceased Thelma. She is survived by her loving children, William Harvey Hay, Jr. of Elkins Park (Laila Ridgway) and Elaine Hay Spicer of Easton, CT; and by four grandchildren, Jane Hay Grubb (Jason) of Lansdale, William Wyatt Hay (Lauren Koch) of Lansdale, Katherine Hay Spicer of Denver, CO and Ryan Spicer of Milford, CT. Five months ago, Thelma became a proud great grandmother to Wyatt Connor Hay. She is also survived by her devoted friend, Ulice Washington, and she was predeceased by her daily summer swimming partners, including her dear friend Helen Boren. The family thanks the loving and dedicated staff at Sunrise of Abington for their excellent care of Thelma since 2012. In the 1960s, she was a great help to customers in the drapery department of the former John Wanamaker Department store, followed by decades excelling as the office manager of the former Jenkintown Texaco. Thelma had a delightful positive attitude and wonderful sense of humor, and loved to tell stories. Her Quaker ancestors were close friends of William Penn. She spent happy childhood summers on the farm owned by her ancestors (Baker/Sill), from the late 1600s to 1926, now the site of the Edgmont Country Club. Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, May 18th at noon at the Church of Our Saviour, at the corner of Homestead and Old York Roads in Jenkintown. A reception will follow. There will be no visitation hours and the burial will be private.
