Notes for Everett Warren HARTSHORNE
Everett "Hank" Warren Hartshorne, 86, of Manchester passed away Satyrday, Sept. 19, 2009 after a long and heroic battle with diabetes.
He was born in Malvern, Pa. on November 30, 1922. He served his country in World War II as a B-17 top turret gunner in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and later attended Aeronautical University in Chicago, at which time he also met his wife of 63 years, Olga. They later moved to the Akron area where they raised their family. Hank retired from Goodyear Aerospace Corp. Aircraft Wheel & Brake Division in 1987 after 39 years of service.
He will always be remembered by his friends and family for his kindness, gentle nature, guidance and wit. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever treasure his story-telling. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting sports. He was the Ohio State Champion in the Sr. Division for .22 and field pistol in 1997. He was a member of the North Lawrence Fish & Game Club where he held various offices over the years. He was Sportsman of the Year in 1990 and Person of the Year in 1999. Hank was also a member of the 20 Buckhorn Club.
Hank was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Elsie Hartshorne; son, Dr. Robert P. Hartshorne; brothers, Harry, Charles and Paul. He is survived by his loving wife, Olga Ann Hartshorne; brother, Lyndel (Lois) Hartshorne of Malvern, Pa,; children, James (Lynn) Hartshorne of Buxton, N. C., Nancy (Robert) Esworthy of North Lawrence, Ohio; faithful dog, PJ. Hank is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan Parteka of Reykjavik, Iceland; Melissa (Troy) Bates of Irmo, S.C.; Nathan (Amanda) Hartshorne of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Heather Hartshorne of Chesapeake, Va.; Elizabeth (Chad) Cron of Santee, Calif.; John Hartshorne of Coronado Island, Calif.; as well as his seven great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Dawson, Gracie, Lilyanne, Olivia, Juliet and Alexander.
