Notes for Howard Franklin Jr. PATTERSON

Howard F. "Shorty" Patterson Jr., 91, died on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at the Southeastern Veterans Center in Spring City, following an illness.
Howard was born in Honey Brook Township, Chester County, on Sept. 2, 1921. He was the son of the late Howard F. Sr. and Sallie (Miller) Patterson.
Howard was the husband of the late Mary E. "Betty" (Kern) Patterson.
He was employed for more than 30 years at the Downingtown Iron Works, as a machinist and in the shipping departments. Howard later worked at the former Kern Hardware Store of Honey Brook.
He served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Howard was very active in the Honey Brook community. He was a lifetime member of the Honey Brook American Legion Wawassan Post #422, the former Honey Brook VFW Post, and the Honey Brook Fire Company, were he served for many years as captain of the fire police.
Howard was also a member of the Honey Brook United Methodist Church and the F.&A.M. Howell Lodge # 405.
He served as mayor of Honey Brook and on the borough council for many years.
Howard enjoyed bowling and was a member of many bowling leagues.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Howard is survived by two sons, Dennis M. "Dennie" Patterson and Lawrence D. "Larry" and his wife, Kim Patterson, both of Honey Brook. There are also six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, at The Labs Funeral Home Inc., 141 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook, with the Rev. Coleen Painter officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow in the Honey Brook Methodist Cemetery.
