Deceased Name: Steven W. Brackin
Steven W. Brackin, 54, of Quarryville, PA, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013, at Union Hospital, Elkton, MD. He was the companion of Carol Beam.
Steve was employed as a farm manager for Warwick Farms, for Phillips Mushroom Farms.
He enjoyed world travel, hunting, and motorcycle riding.
Steve spent his entire career in the mushroom industry. He traveled the globe regularly seeking the latest innovations in equipment and growing techniques. He was largely responsible for the advanced design and efficiencies of energy, labor and materials achieved at Warwick Mushroom Farms. Steve was universally respected throughout the industry for his commitment to learning better ways to grow and passing this knowledge on to others. Steve was Warwick Mushroom Farms representative to the American Mushroom Institute and The Maryland and Cecil County Farm Bureaus. On behalf of these organizations, he gave numerous tours to various Federal, State and County agencies to help increase their knowledge of mushroom growing
He was born in Chester County, a son of the late Lawrence and Patricia George Brackin.
In addition to his companion Carol, Steve is survived by a sister, Vickie Salyers, Roan Mountain, TN. He was predeceased by his son, Raymond A. Brackin; 2 brothers, Gary and Ronald Brackin; and a sister, Judith Maxfield.
The Funeral Service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1104 Kirkwood Pike, Quarryville, PA on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Blake Deibler officiating. The burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.
