Notes for Minerva Anetta BRENDLE

Minerva Anetta "Nettie" Hickman, 95, of West Chester, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at The Hickman in West Chester.
She was the widow of William B. Hickman, with whom she shared 42 years of marriage until he died in 1984.
Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late W.W. and Maggie Kendig Brendle.
She was a 1931 graduate of Thomas Jefferson University School of Nursing and practiced private duty nursingbefore becoming supervisor of the of the Work Projects Administration-sponsored kindergarten programs throughout Chester County. It was at that time that she met her future husband, who was director of the county WPA.
In 1945, with her husband and father-in-law, Marshall B. Hickman, she purchased the Turk's Head Inn, which she managed for 19 years.
She volunteered for the Red Cross bloodmobile, clerked auction sales, was bookkeeper at the Women's Exchange in West Chester and was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the West Chester Auxiliary of the Chester County Hospital.
She loved traveling, including a trip to Australia in 1984 and trips to the British Isles, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, throughout the United States and Canada, and more recently, to Sun Valley, Idaho.
Her family was always extremely important to her. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra H. Lee and son-in-law Philip, of Kennett Square; grandsons, John and his wife, Tracy, and Thomas, all of Sun Valley, Idaho; and great-granddaughter, Tanner.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2005, at The Hickman, 400 N. Walnut St., West Chester, PA 19380-2487.
Interment will be private at Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery.
