Elva Marshman McQueen, 90, formerly of Thorndale, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Georgia.
Born on July 27, 1918, in Thorndale, she was the daughter of the late Ashton L. and Elizabeth A. Holbrook Marshman.
Mrs. McQueen was recorder of deeds in Chester County from 1980 until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. McQueen, on Dec. 29, 1978. Mr. McQueen was a former sheriff of Chester County.
Mrs. McQueen was a lifelong resident of Caln until she moved to Sumter County Retirement Village in January 2003 to be near her daughter.
She had been active in various political and community activities. She was a former president of Caln Township Women's Republican Club and was on the board of directors of the Women's Replublican Club of Chester County. Mrs. McQueen was an ardent supporter of fund drives, such as the heart fund and the American Cancer Society. She belonged to the Caln Civic Club and the Caln Garden Club.
She was a member of Thorndale United Methodist Church and was recognized in 2008 as the oldest living member. She was active in the ladies circle and various other church activities.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon M. and Larry Underwood of Americus, Ga.; a sister, Alice Leonard of Huntingdon; a sister and brother-in-law, Eloise and Kenneth Hopton of Coatesville; a brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Egee Marshman of Honey Brook; two grandchildren, Michele Underwood of Chicago, Ill., and Kevin and his wife, Mary Underwood, of Birmingham, Ala.; two great-grandchildren, Anna Claire and Ryan Underwood; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Marshman and Ashton L. Marshman Jr.; and two sisters, Janet Brinton and Patricia Patton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Harris-Mountain Funeral Home, 1030 E. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville.

Family and friends may call after 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Interment will be in Hephzibah Baptist Cemetery, Coatesville.
