Notes for Eleanor JOHNSON

Eleanor Johnson Painter of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at her home in the Kendal-Crosslands Community. She was 88 years old. Eleanor was the wife of Walter S. Painter, whose family has historical ties to the area known as Painters Crossroads in Chester County. They were married in 1940 and were enjoying their 67th year of married life. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1918, she was the daughter of the late Carl Johnson and the late Marie Beyer Johnson. She matriculated at Swarthmore College and married Walter shortly after graduation. Eleanor lived in Towson, Maryland and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania before moving to Crosslands in 1994. She was a devoted mother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed traveling and athletic pursuits and was very active socially.

Survivors: In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Stephen S. Painter of Baltimore, Md. and Carl E. Painter of Greenwich, Conn.; daughter, Anne P. Fouch of Weston, Fla.; two granddaughters.
