Notes for Calvin M. BRACKIN

Calvin M. Brackin

Age 87, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, April 16, 2010 at Barclay Friends in West Chester, PA.

Born in Kennett Square, he was the son of the late Wilson and Mary Galatha Brackin and was graduated from Kennett High School in 1941. He served his country as a Marine in WWII in Hawaii, Samoa and Guam and was quartermaster for the VFW Swayne, Campbell, Testa Post 5467 for 15 years and commander for one year. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 41 years. He and his wife, Teresa were volunteers for the West Chester Area School District's program for gifted for over 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Virgilio Brackin, his son, Calvin H. (Cal) Brackin and longtime family friend, Donald Smith all of West Chester, PA.

He is also survived by sisters, Theresa Hodson, Mary Wayne and Melva McKee and a brother, John Brackin, by sisters-in-law, Mary Virgilio, Anna Virgilio, Helen Brackin and Kay Brackin and brother-in-law, Henry Virgilio. He is preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Wayne and brothers, Elmer Brackin, Anthony Brackin and James Brackin.

Friends may call at the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, 250 West State Street, Kennett Square, PA, on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 from 9-10:30 AM. The visitation will be followed by a religious service at the funeral home and interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in his name to the Barclay Activity Fund at Barclay Friends, 700 North Franklin Street, West Chester, PA, 19380 where Teresa still resides. Teresa and Cal wish to express their sincere thanks to everyone who celebrated Calvin's life with him during this difficult time and to Barclay Friends who helped make his passing a beautiful journey.
