Notes for Dorothy M. COATES
Dorothy C. Kuhn of Coatesville Dorothy C. Kuhn, 102, died Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Pocopson Home, where she has lived for the last nine years. She was born on April 24, 1913, and was predeceased by her estranged husband, Marlin Kuhn. Dorothy was a 1931 graduate of Coatesville Senior High School. She was employed as secretary at Devitt’s Hardware Store, Coatesville for many years and later was secretary at North Brandywine Middle School for many years before retiring. She was the oldest living member of Olivet United Methodist Church, having been a member for 90 years. Dorothy loved her church and began teaching Sunday school at the age of 15. She taught every age group from elementary, to Junior High and adults over the many years she was able. She was also active in Senior Citizens Supper Club at Church. She served as a volunteer for many years as the Secretary/Treasurer for Meals on Wheels. She was a loving, and caring mother and with the help of her sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Coates Swinehart she dedicated her life to raising her five sons. Dorothy is survived by her four sons: Glenn (Peggy), Vincent (Kathleen), Raymond (Mildred) and Charles “Chill” (Carol), her daughter-in-law, Marie; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Warren A. Kuhn, two grandsons, Glenn Kuhn, Jr. and Jeremy Kuhn, and great-grandson, Vince “Vinnie” Kuhn Jr. Dorothy’s funeral service will be held Friday, October 9 at 11 a.m. at Olivet United Methodist Church with visitation being held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Coatesville.
