Notes for George Vernon Jr. PLYMYER

George V. Plymyer, age 60, passed away on October 18, 2012 surrounded by his family. George was born in Unionville, PA to Marian [Smedley] Baker and George V. Plymyer. He graduated from Unionville High School in 1972 where he met the love his life, his "sweatheart" Roo [Leslie Wilford] Plymyer. George and Roo were married in 1974.
George and Roo moved to Arden and raised their family. An outdoorsman and renaissance man, he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons and sharing the skills his father had taught him. George and Roo later moved to Claymont, Delaware, but often talked about moving back to the Arden woods where 2 of their sons reside with their families.
George was consummate collector and trader, rarely seen without his trademarked red crusher hat. He loved to explore flea markets, thrift stores and antique shops for tackle, knives and camping tools. With a fine eye for quality and detail, George was always able to see the treasures among the trash.
George was a kind and gentle man who went out of his way to help others, most importantly his family. He would often tell stories of his adventures helping someone after only just meeting them. George was also involved in the Arden community and served on the board of directors for the Arden Swim Club.
George is preceded by his father, George V. Plymyer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years Roo; his children, Seth and his wife Michelle, George V. III "Co-D" and his wife Heather, Perry and his wife Jennifer, and Quinn; grandchildren, Madison and Tyler Matera, and Mikala and Ami Plymyer; and his mother, Marian [Smedley] Baker. He is also survived by his honorary children Scott Brumbaugh and Julia Kline Fagnilli and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Recently described by his son Co-D as my "Man with The Yellow Hat, but Pop wore a red hat" (a reference to "Curious George"), George was most loved by his family for being a leader and one who would always help them through challenging times.
The loss of a great man has left us with heavy hearts. The world has lost an amazing person who cared more for others than himself. He leaves us with a desire to be more like him, to somehow be better because of him and fortunate for having shared a moment with this gentle soul. Thankful for the lessons he taught us and sad for the future without him in it. Ours is a promise to never forget, to honor and continue to love in its purist form. You will forever be in our hearts for you have left footprints on our souls...peaceful rest is yours now Pappa Daddy.
Relatives and friends are invited to a send-off gathering in honor of George at the Buzz Ware Village Center on November 17, 2012 from 12pm to 3pm. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to a trust for George's youngest son Quinn, age 16.
