Notes for Eric Harbeson Jr. BIDDLE
ERIC H. JR., Philadelphia native died Oct. 21. 21, 2012, in Fairfax VA. Born Feb. 10, 1928 in Bryn Mawr, Biddle grew up in Ardmore where he graduated from the Haverford School.
His career highlights include serving 20 years as an officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve; eight years in the 50s as a CIA Russian area intelligence officer, including being station-ed in Germany and Greece; 15 years in domestic federal agencies, including ACTION; and various positions in the private sector, working for Provident Trust Company, Link-Belt; Smith, Kline and French; Bechtel Corp.; and the National Council of Churches
Upon retirement from the federal government, Biddle became an immigration lawyer, including helping Soviet Bloc defectors relocate in other countries such as the U.S. In that stage of his career, he was selected to serve as a member of the Commission for the Study of International Migration and Cooperative Economic Development (1987-1990), which led to the last enacted reform of U.S. immigration laws.
His educational accomplish-ments include earning an A.B. from Harvard University and later a J.D. from George Washington University He also earned graduate credits from Union Theological Seminary (Columbia University) and Pennsylvania University.
Biddle was a widower who had twice married, first to Mary Churchill (divorced) of West Chester PA (now Mary Masters) and later to Rosina Bullington Biddle of Arlington VA and later San Diego, who died Oct. 4, 2000.
Biddle is survived by his son, Michael C. Biddle Sr., of Chantilly VA; 3 grandchildren, Michael C. Biddle, Jr., of Washington DC, Marissa A. Huss of Tampa FL and Kristin M. Biddle of New York City; and 3 great grandchildren, Krista Huss, Alexander Huss and Annastasia Biddle.
A Graveside Service will be held 1 P.M., Thursday (Today), Oct. 25, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 4001 W. Cheltenham Ave., Phila. PA
