Notes for J. Lewis BRACKIN
J. Lewis Brackin, 73, of 215 Hillcrest Rd., New Holland, died Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Hershey Medical Center following a two month illness. He is survived by his wife, Diane Keen Brackin, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage.
Born in New Holland, he was the son of the late Clyde Lewis and Dorothy Walton Brackin.
Lew was a 1949 graduate of the former New Holland High School and of Goldey-Beacom College.
He retired in 1991 from the Eastern Lancaster County School District office where he served as Transportation Director for 13 years.
He was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ, New Holland and the 9:15 Bible class. He was a founding member of the Garden Spot Midget Athletic Association and the Garden Spot Football Booster Club; a charter member of the New Holland Jaycees; and was instrumental in establishing the S.C.I. P. program for at-risk students at Garden Spot High School.
He loved music, especially from the Big Band era and books. Although he was a sports enthusiast, golfing was his greatest passion. He was a former member of Olde Hickory Golf Club.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four children: Kurt married to Kathy Brackin, Leola; Jill Ipnar companion of Deb Bialecki, Smyrna, DE; Cindy Brackin, Hummelstown; and John Brackin, New Holland; also five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and a great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2005 at 11 AM at Beck Funeral Home, Inc., 315 E. Main St., New Holland with Rev. William Sherman officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10 to 11 AM. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorial contributions in his memory may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 N.
