Notes for Samuel BALDWIN

Samuel Baldwin was born January 4, 1776 in Loudon County, VA. On March 27, 1805 he married Mary Hazen in Westmoreland County, PA. She was born on September 2, 1784 in Sussex County, NJ the daughter of Mary Bell and Nathaniel Hazen. Together they had 11 children -- Mary born in 1806, Anna born in 1808, Huldah born in 1811, Joseph born in 1813, nathaniel born in 1816, Elizabeth born in 1818, Sarah boprn in 1820, Susannah born in 1822, Samuel born in 1825, Lydia born in 1827, and Hannah born in 1829. Samuel moved from Virginia to North Sewickley Township, Beaver, PA in 1804 where he was a Carpenter. Three years later he moved his family to Shenango Township, PA where he was a School Teacher and Farmer. He served in the War of 1812 as a private in Company 9, 138th Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 16th Division of the Pennsylvania militia under the command of Captain Wilson Caldoo. For his service he received 40 acres of Bounty Land. he died in Shenango Township, PA on April 7, 1856 as a result of infection from a cut ankle. Mary died there on August 38, 1863.
