He began his 34-year career of teaching instrumental music at the Downingtown Junior and Senior High schools from 1947 until 1953. In 1952, the senior class of Downingtown High School dedicated its yearbook to him.
In 1953, he began working for Sun Pipeline Co., where he stayed until 1958, when he returned to teaching in the Brandywine Area School District, now merged into the Coatesville Area, and continued at North Brandywine Junior High School, (now Middle School) until his retirement in 1984.
Formerly a member of the Olivet Methodist Church in Coatesville, he later became a member and ruling elder at the Fairview Presbyterian Church in Glenmoore, serving as the adult choir director for about 20 years. For the last 30 years, he was an active member and ruling elder at the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church in Parkesburg.
