Notes for Sally Anderson MAKIVER

Sally Anderson Makiver Cummings, 76, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at her home in Malvern. She was predeceased by her parents, John Sermon Pennock Makiver and Elsa Snyder Anderson Makiver; and her brother, John Sermon Pennock Makiver Jr. She was born Aug. 6, 1933, and raised in Haverford, Villanova and Gladwyne. She was educated at the Agnes Irwin School and Bennett College in Millbrook, N.Y. An accomplished equestrian, she also played field hockey, basketball and lacrosse.In 1956, she married Scott Joseph Cummings of Elk City, Okla. Sally lived for a number of years in California, where she held positions with Joni and Friends and Merrill Lynch before returning to her beloved Pennsylvania in 1992. She was administrative assistant to the president at Westminster Theological Seminary for nine years and public relations coordinator at the Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School from 2006 until the time of her death. An active member of her church, Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson, Sally was also a former Chester County Republican Committee member and a tireless advocate for excellence in education. In November 2009, she was elected to the Great Valley School District board of directors. Sally was a member of Skycastle French Hounds, the Willistown Historic Commission and the Valley Forge Council of Republican Women; a supporter of the Primitive Hall Foundation and the Chester County Historical Society; and an avid promoter of the Delaware and Chester County Bluebird Trail - Bluebird Society of Pennsylvania. Some of her favorite passions included gardening, birding, traveling, genealogy and her friends. Survivors include her four children, Scott Joseph (Jan) Cummings Jr., of Bothell, Wash., John Castleman (Vonni) Cummings of Altadena, Calif., Tyler Parker Cummings of Bothell, Wash., and Brenda Cummings (Matthew) Resch of Lansing, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate her life at a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Willow Grove. Guests are encouraged to arrive by 6:30 p.m.She will be interred privately at Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery in West Chester.
