Notes for Charles M. PYLE
Charles M. Pyle, chairman of the West Caln Township Board of Supervisors, collapsed and died while driving to work at 7:35 a.m. today. He was 70 years old, and according to a member of the family, had been in good health.
Mr. Pyle was the second West Caln supervisor to die within the last month. Norman A. Rissel succumbed July 28. Edwin R. Carpenter, the remaining supervisor, said today that the county court would have to appoint new supervisors, since he and Mr. Pyle had been "deadlocked" on appointing Rissel's sucessor.
SUPERVISOR 18 YEARS
Mr. Pyle had been a supervisor for 18 years and township Republican committeeman for 25 years. For many years, he also had been in charge of road maintenance in the township. At one time, he worked for the Ridgeway Foundary & Machine Co., formerly of Coatesville. A lifelong resident of Wagontown, he was the son of the later Martin and Katherine Martin Pyle. He was a member of Olivet Methodist Church, Coatesville; of Coatesville Lodge 564, F and AM; reading Consistory; the Wagontown and Martin's Corner Fire Cos. and the State Council of Civil Defense. Mr. Pyle was head of the West Caln CD council. Surviving are his wife, the former Ella Eppihimer, of Wagontown; one daughter, Orpha, wife of John McLaughlin, of West Chester; one son, Clair A., of Wagontown; two brothers, Harry of Wagontown, and William J., of Coatesville; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Murphy, of Watontown and four grandchildren. Interment in Honey Brook Methodist Cemetery.
