Notes for Lovisa JANSEN
REHOBOTH BEACH - Lovisa J. Tatnall, M.D., of Rehoboth Beach died after a short illness with cancer Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, in her home. She was 84.
Dr. Tatnall was born May 5, 1916, in Astoria, Ore., the daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Theodore A. Jansen.
She was a graduate of the University of Washington, Mills College and the University of California at Berkeley. She came east to attend Women's Medical College in Philadelphia, now the Medical College of Pennsylvania, and graduated in 1947.
She married the Rev. Joseph Tatnall in 1948 and settled in suburban Philadelphia before they moved to Washington, D.C., where she practiced medicine at the Children's Hospital National Medical Center. While at the center, before retiring, she served as the head of the department of Pediatric Psychiatry until her retirement.
In retirement, she enjoyed serving as a clergyman's wife, first in Smyrna, then in Rehoboth Beach.
Dr. Tatnall was active in Friends of the Library and the Rehoboth Beach Art League. Most recently she did the scheduling for the All Saints Parish Thrift Shop.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995.
She is survived by two children, Lovisa M. Tatnall and J.S. Edward Tatnall, both of Rehoboth Beach.
A liturgy of Christian burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday at All Saints Episcopal Church, Olive Avenue, Rehoboth Beach.
Burial will be in St. George's Episcopal Cemetery near Angola.
