Notes for John Douglas COATH
JOHN D. COATH SR., CITY BUSINESSMAN, 82, John Douglas Coath Sr., 82, a Philadelphia businessman, died of heart failure Saturday at his home in Villanova.
Since 1957, Mr. Coath had served as president of the family-owned Frank W. Winne, & Son Inc., a twine, rope, tape and cordage manufacturer and distributor at Front and Arch Streets in Center City.
Mr. Coath was a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
He served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He was a member of the Philadelphia Country Club, the Union League, and the IVth, Street Club in Philadelphia.
His wife, Vija Berzlapa Coath, died more than 10 years ago.
He is survived by children, Sally Ivory, J. Douglas Jr., Leslie J., James R., Pamela J. and Philip, A.; a sister, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
