Notes for Anna ROBERTS
Mrs. Anna R. Balderston, 94, formerly of Clinton Terrace, Easton, died Sunday in Fort Washington (Md.) Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of Dr. Mark Balderston, former professor emeritus of physics at Lafayette College.
She taught French at Milford (N.C.) College, where she coached girls basketball. She also was a research analyst for the former General Aniline and Film Corp., Easton.
She graduated cum laude from Bryn Mawr College in 1915 with a bachelor of arts degree and received a master of arts degree from Columbia University in 1923.
Born in Moorestown, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Isaac L. and Mary E. (Wilkins) Roberts.
She was the first woman to perform in the theater at Lafayette College in 1927.
Balderston served on the board of the Santa Claus Exchange, the forerunner of the Toys for Tots campaign, and on the board of Planned Parenthood in Easton.
A member of the board and past president of the Easton branch of the American Association of University Women, she was a founder of its International Relations Study Group, and was named Outstanding Woman of the Year by the branch earlier this year.
Balderston assisted the American Red Cross in the return of French students to their country after World War II.
Survivors: Daughter, Jean B. Wilcox of Temple Hills, Md., and two granddaughters.
