Notes for Brenda Rebecca HICKMAN
Brenda H. McFarland, 70, of Marshallton, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at her home. She was the wife of Keith E. McFarland with whom she share 41 years of marriage. Born in Montgomery, Ala., she was the daughter of the late David E., Jr. and Mary Cassell Hickman. Brenda was a member of Marshallton United Methodist Church and dedicated her life to volunteerism and service. She spent many years with children's youth activities including the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, youth athletics, school and church activities. Brenda served on the board of the West Bradford Youth Athletics, in which she helped to generate in the early 1980's. Brenda also served on the board at the Chester County Art Association and the Chester County Unit of the American Cancer Society as the Chairperson of Public Education and raised funds as the crusader coordinator. Brenda held several leadership roles with Meals on Wheels and was instrumental in forming the BradLin Meals on Wheels Chapter. She later became the President of the first Board of Directors and served as the Director for Chester County from 1995 until 2009. Brenda enjoyed travelling, but most importantly loved her family and friends. She was known for her positive attitude, even until her last days. In addition to her husband, Brenda is survived by her children: William Miller, Jen McGuire, Sue Woods and partner Jill Staaf, Tom Miller and spouse Deb, Aran McFarland and spouse Shannon; grandchildren: Cody and Courtney Woods, Grace Staaf, Shane, Dante, Michael and Madison Miller, Patrick, Jillian and Daniel McFarland; siblings: Jane "Lovey" James and spouse Tom and David E. Hickman, III and spouse June. She was preceded in death by grandson William E. Miller.
