Notes for Mary Venus CASSELL
Mary Venus Cassell Hickman of West Chester, formerly of Caln, died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011.
Born in Erie on Sept. 17, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Clyde R. and Teresa Jane Skelton Cassell.
Her husband of 35 years, Lt. Col. David Elwyn Hickman Jr., USAF Retired 1965, passed away Nov. 7, 1973.
Mrs. Hickman's greatest joy was spending time with her husband and their family.
She was a homemaker, artist and world traveler, also a volunteer for numerous civic and service organizations. She made many beautiful pieces of needlework and enjoyed gardening, oil painting, sailing, nature and bird watching. Mary was an avid bridge player.
Surviving are one son, David Elwyn Hickman III, husband of June Bilbrey Hickman; two daughters, Brenda Rebecca, wife of Keith E. McFarland, and Lavina Jane, wife of Thomas M. James; one sister, Virginia Clyde Cassell Beck, wife of the late Blaine E. Beck; and two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Louise Hickman Pratt and Gloria Becker Cassell of Kennett Square.
She was preceded in death in 1981 by a brother, Clyde Richard Cassell Jr.; a sister, Wilma Cassell Osterlund Scheer in 2009; two grandsons, David Elwyn Hickman IV in 1973 and William Edward Miller in 2006; and one great-grandson, Christopher David Hickman in 2008.
Surviving grandchildren include Fred, Jenny, Susan, Tiffany and Bill, Tom and Deb, Morgan and Ashley, Daisy and Collin, Aran and Shannon, and Stephen and Erin. Surviving great-grandchildren include Cody, Courtney, Grace Olivia, Tyler, Anna Catherine, Emily Garner, Shane, Dante, Michael, Madison, Patrick, Jillian, Daniel, Stevie Dee, Noah and Parker; also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be officiated by the Rev. Scott Widmer, pastor of Marshallton United Methodist Church, West Chester.
Internment will be in Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, next to her dearly beloved husband.
