Notes for Reynolds Lloyd JONES
SMYRNA - Reynolds L. Jones, of Smyrna, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, in his home. He was 86.
Mr. Jones was born March 5, 1920, in Smyrna, son of the late H. Lloyd Sr. and Etta (Reynolds) Jones.
After spending his early years farming with his father, he expanded the Smyrna Airport, which he had originally carved out of the farm in 1946. He devoted many years to training new pilots in both single-engine aircraft and gliders.
In 2001, Mr. Jones was inducted into the Delaware Aviation Hall of Fame. Flying was his passion as well as his work and he never found time to retire.
He was devoted to his wife and family and cherished the times when the whole family gathered at home. The twinkle in his eye as he watched his children and grandchildren let them know how much he treasured them.
Mr. Jones will be remembered as a true gentleman with a wonderful sense of humor, who never had an unkind word for anyone.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, H. Lloyd Jones Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara; his children, David Jones of Smyrna, Debbie Kosmer and her husband, Richard, of Forest Hill, Md., Bob Jones and his wife, Karen, of Smyrna, Marilyn Beckley and her husband, Doug, of Quakertown, Pa., and Carol Reuben and her husband, Edward, of Smyrna; 11 grandchildren, Adam Kosmer, Matt Kosmer, Sarah Kosmer, Cody Sandoz, Wesley Jones, Seth Beckley, Summer Beckley, Skye Beckley, Sawyer Beckley, Alex Reuben and Todd Reuben.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Asbury United Methodist Church, 20-24 W. Mount Vernon St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour earlier.
