Notes for Cynthia Geyelin CHURCHMAN
Cynthia Churchman Marshall, died of a lung infection on October 25, 2011. She was 80. Mrs. John Marshall grew up on West Highland Avenue in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia. She was a student of Miss Zara's Elementary School and a 1948 graduate of Springside School. She attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, when days of travel were needed to get there. In her over 50 years on the Main Line, Mrs. Marshall lived in Strafford, Wayne and, lastly, Devon. She spent summers in Westport, Mass. and summers and winters in St. Barth's. She had several jobs in her lifetime, but her main career and passion was as a real estate professional, which she began in the late 1960s, a time when the residential sales market had yet to be dominated by women. Her love of the business, work ethic and well-honed social skills contributed to her success in becoming a regular member of the Million Dollar Club, an honor then infrequently won. She worked for Cullen and Company, Henderson - Dewey and Prudential Fox Roach. In her decades of real estate she served as mentor for many of fellow agents. Mrs. Marshall is survived by her husband of nearly 59 years, John Marshall, and her sons John, Samuel and William. She is also survived by one brother, William B. Churchman; a sister, Beatrice DuPont; two daughters-in-law, Laura Buck Marshall and Susan Hanling Marshall; four grandchildren and several much-loved nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m. in the chapel of St. David's Episcopal Church, 763 South Valley Forge Rd., in Wayne, Pa. on October 31, the couple's 59th wedding anniversary.
