Notes for Walter Hannum Jr. BRACKIN

Dr. Walter Hannaum Brackin Jr., 85, of Ben Avon Heights, Pittsburgh, formerly of Allentown, died Wednesday in Valley Care Nursing Home, Pittsburgh. He was the husband of Mildred (Burnish) Brackin. They were married 54 years.
He was a senior professor of psychology at Muhlenberg College, retiring in 1975. He joined the staff in 1954 as an associate professor, promoted to full professor in 1957 and named department head in 1958. From 1944 to 1954 he was assistant and then director of the Veterans Administration Guidance Center at Temple University, as well as lecturer in psychology. He was a teacher and counselor at Coatesville High School from 1931-1943, during which time he founded the Coatesville Public Library.
Born in Coatesville, he was a son of the late Walter H. Sr. and Emma R. (Burnight) Bracken.
He was a member and elder of Second United Church of Christ, Reading.
He was a 1924 graduate of West Chester State College, earned his master's from the University of Pennsylvania in 1931, and in 1954 was awarded his doctorate from Temple University, Philadelphia.
He is a past member of the Board of Mental Health of Lehigh County.
Survivors: Wife; son, James B. of Pittsburgh; sister, Violet Althouse of Parkesburg, Chester County; brother, Marvin B. of Coatesville, and three grandchildren.
Graveside services: 11 a.m. tomorrow, Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading. Memorial services 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Sewickley, Allegheny County.
