Notes for Spencer Raymond STUART
Spencer Raymond Stuart, formerly of Darien, died Jan. 17 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was 88.
Born on Sept. 25, 1922, in Baltimore, he was the son of William and Helen Stuart. He attended Morgan Park Military Academy and graduated from Haverford College.
He served as an infantry officer in World War II and in 1949, married Eugenia P. Birdsall. He worked for the Martin-Senour Paint Company, Booz Allen Hamilton, and, in 1956 ,he founded SpencerStuart, currently one of the largest and most respected executive search firms in the world, where he later served as honorary chairman.
He donated his time and expertise to the Silvermine Guild Art Center and the Boy Scouts of America where, in 1980, he was awarded the Silver Beaver award. He served on numerous boards including Enhance, InveQuest, UST and Western Airlines.
Survivors include his wife Eugenia; three children, Spencer Stuart Jr., Cooper Stuart and Eugenia Davey; and six grandchildren, Spencer Stuart III, Hillary Stuart, Christine Stuart, Cooper Stuart Jr., Elizabeth Clark and Ashley Clark.
