Notes for James A. Jr. LATTA

JAMES LATTA JR., 77, president or chairman of the A. Duie Pyle trucking company in West Chester for many years, died Friday at his home in West Chester.
Mr. Latta was a native of Parkesburg, Chester County, and had lived in West Chester for many years.
He married the former Eleanor Pyle in 1942, the day before he left for three years' service with a military hospital unit in China, India and Burma during World War II.
On return from the war, Mr. Latta briefly taught at Washington & Lee
College in Virginia before returning to Chester County to help run and expand the trucking service operated by his father-in-law, A. Duie Pyle.
For nearly 50 years, Mr. Latta oversaw the growth and operation of the trucking company, which specializes in less-than-truckload lots throughout the Boston-Washington corridor. The company also operates a public warehouse in West Chester.
Mr. Latta was a lover of the outdoors. He raised a large vegetable garden and enjoyed hunting turkey and fishing.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of West Chester and was active in the Rotary, the Paoli Hospital Authority and West Chester University Foundation.
Survivors, in addition to his wife: daughters, Ellen Ann Eckman and Jane; sons, Jim, Duie and Peter; sister Jane, and 12 grandchildren.
