Notes for Anna Byers COPE
nna Cope Brinton of West Chester Anna Cope Brinton, "Nana," 105, went home to be with the Lord on August 13, 2011. Born on September 3, 1905 in East Bradford on Copeland School Rd, she was the only daughter of Morris and Fannie Byers Cope. She was a love to all who knew her and will be greatly missed by her family and her friends. She entered Friends School of West Chester in 1912. She graduated from Temple University in 1925 with a Bachelor's degree in Teaching & Education. She was treasurer for her sorority Theta Sigma Upsilon. She was the only teacher for Grades K-5 in a one room schoolhouse teaching all subjects. She married her beloved High School sweetheart, Marshall Farra Brinton, famous furniture maker of West Chester on June 27, 1928 in the Washington Memorial Chapel at Valley Forge. Anna & Marshall were happily married for over 56 years until his death in 1984. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in West Chester for 85 years where was a member of Circle and Women's Auxiliary. She was a volunteer for Chester County Hospital for over 25 years and a hostess for Chester County Day for over 20 years. She could be seen delivering Meals On Wheels and volunteering at the Bring & Buy Shop and The West Chester Library. She was a long-term member of the Century Club of West Chester where she held office and was also a member of the Grey Ladies of the American Red Cross. When she wasn't spending time with her family, or volunteering, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, needlepoint, sewing, bridge and was an excellent cook. Nana was truly a gift from above and was admired and loved by all who knew her. She was the best "Nana" that anyone could ever have. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward M. Cope of Oxford, Pa. She is survived by her son, Marshall Edward "Ed" Brinton of Cape May, N.J, two granddaughters, Dana Ann Brinton of West Chester and Brenda Lee Brinton of Downingtown and one great-grandson, Marshall. Funeral services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10 W. Pleasant Grove Rd., West Chester on Wednesday, August 31 at 12 Noon. Friends may call from 11 am to Noon at the Church. Interment will be private.
