Notes for Carl Jay BUFFINGTON
Carl Jay Buffington, 64, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at the Veterans Medical Center in Lebanon. Born in Wilmington, DE, Carl was the son of the late Harry and Elizabeth Buffington.
Raised in Kennett Square, Carl enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1965 and retired on a disability discharge as a staff sergeant in 1977. Carl worked for Franklin and Marshall College in the safety department for 17 years and most recently worked at Allied-Barton Security.
Carl served as a Commander in the Disabled Veterans organization, as Commandant of the Lancaster Detachment of the Marine Corps League, and as an officer of the Devil Dogs. For his service in these organizations, Carl received awards, including the Distinguished Citizens Award from the Marine Corps League of the Department of Pennsylvania.
Surviving Carl are his son Chris J., husband of Kristy Buffington and granddaughter, Landri E. Buffington, all of York; his sister, Mary Ann Pry, of Newark, DE; companion Cindy Klingaman of Richland; and his former wife, Sandra L. Gibson of Lancaster.
A Viewing will take place 10:30 to 11:30 AM and the Funeral Service at 11:30 AM on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Lancaster County Marine Corps League Chaplain, Lewis B. Alston, will officiate. Interment with Military Honors at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
