Notes for Carl E. BUFFINGTON
Carl E. Buffington of Oxford Carl E. Buffington, 87, of Oxford, died July 15, 2011, at Jennersville Regional Hospital. He was born Dec. 11, 1923 in Rosedale, Pa., son of Harry S. and Goldie Belle Buffington. He graduated from Kennett High School. A WWII veteran, he served in France and Belgium. Following military service, he graduated from Goldey Beacom Business College and worked for the Wilmington Trust Co. for 42 years. Known to his friends as Buff, he was an avid gardener and loved sharing knowledge and plant cuttings with others. Buff enjoyed traveling and camping with family and friends and was active with the Boy Scouts of America, leading scouts on an annual trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico for years. Buff was a 50-year member of numerous Masonic organizations, including Past Master of Kennett Masonic Lodge No 475 F. & A.M., High Priest of Kennett Royal Arch Chapter No 275, Eminent Commander of West Chester Commandery No. 88 and Illustrious Master of Gunning Bedford Council #1. He was married in 1952 to Phyllis R. Sweigart, his loving wife of 59 years. In addition to his wife, Buff is survived by his daughter, Susan Griffith of Crawfordsville, Ind., and her husband Larry, and son, Steve Buffington of Coraopolis, Pa., and his wife, Marie Rose; and grandson, Michael Griffith of Austin, Texas. Buff was one of three brothers; Robert of Williamsburg, Va. and Harry, of Kennett Square, who preceded him in death. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Edward L. Collins, Jr., Funeral Home Inc., 86 Pine St., Oxford. Masonic Services will be performed at 9:45 a.m. Friday, July 22, in the parlor of the Oxford Presbyterian Church, 6 Pine St. Oxford. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. AM in the sanctuary, with interment following at Longwood Cemetery.
